If you have an empty granary and a negative crop production in a village, troops will start to starve there. Starved troops return 
the crop training cost of the unit / 
(100 * their crop consumption) crop to feed the remaining troops for a while, until the granary becomes empty again. Troops starve in a specific order, however Kingdoms and Legends have different rules.
